Having released a collection of his father’s archival recordings which forms the backdrop for this concert, Sean will discuss the East Galway flute tradition and perform pieces from his wide repertoire. Sean plays both Boehme and simple system concert flutes as well as alto flute, tin whistle and fiddle. He is accompanied by his wife Irene on the bodhrán (a wood framed goatskin drum).

New CD Released - Eddie Moloney: Master Musician

A collection of professional archival and personal recordings audio re-mastered to a high standard of Eddie Moloney playing, dating from 1947 to 1980. Compiled and produced by Seán Moloney.

Ensemble tracks include recordings of Eddie playing on different tracks with Aggie Whyte, Tommy Coen, Joe O’Leary, Joe Burke, Kathleen Collins and many more.

Included:

16-page booklet inside with track listing, notes and photos.

CD1: Eddie in a Aonar – 35 solo tracks.

CD2: Eddie agus a Cháirde – 22 ensemble tracks.

Eddie Moloney Memorial Concert

A special memorial concert for Eddie Moloney (1920-1980) will be held in the Town Hall, Galway on Saturday 20th June 2015

A double CD featuring Eddie playing flute, fiddle and tin whistle will be launched at the memorial concert.

Eddie was considered to be the top traditional Irish flute player of the 1950's and 1960's. He is of the Ballinakill tradition of music, Loughrea, County Galway.

Cooley Collins Tradfest

Sean performs at a tribute concert for Paddy Fahey on Sunday 28th October at the Cooley-Collins Tradfest in Gort, County Galway. Paddy, the most famous of all present day Irish music composers in the traditional idiom, now in his nineties, will be presented with a compilation CD featuring many of his tunes as a lifetime achievement award. Some of the tracks are taken from Sean Moloney's CDs, Bridging the Gap, Music on the wind and Potsticks. Others featured on the CD are Paddy Carty, Joe Burke, Eileen O'Brien, The Kane sisters, the Keville sisters, Patsy and Liam Lewis and of course Paddy Fahey himself.

Many of the musicians on the CD will also perform at the concert.

The concert takes place in the Lady Gregory Hotel at 3.30 pm.

Sean composes & directs music for Tarry Flynn Theatre Production

Sean Moloney composes and directs music for the stage adaptation of the novel Tarry Flynn by Patrick Kavanagh.

Sean is a tutor at the Friday Harbour Irish Music Camp, USA

Sean was a flute instructor to over 20 students of intermediate to advanced level from March 8 -13 2010 at the Friday Harbour Irish Music Camp. The camp, based on San Juan Island near Washington in the USA, is organized yearly by Randal Bays and Dan Paulson. Sean focussed in on the East Galway Style of Flute playing and taught commonly played tunes from the East Galway area. He also gave a presentation to all camp participants entitled "The Moloney Family and the East Galway Music Tradition".
